A World Tour Using Disney World Tickets

May 8th, 2009 | RSS Feeds | Posted In: Travel
MIKE SELVON asked:

You can spend one day at each of the four Disney parks, or you can stay for ten days and buy “park hopper” Disney World tickets to move freely between parks for the entire duration of your stay. There are various options for your Disney vacation, but the first step to planning your trip is deciding upon a budget and examining what each Disneyworld park has to offer!

For starters, you’ll want to buy tickets for the Magic Kingdom which is comprised of several distinct lands: Main Street USA, Mickey’s Toon Town Fair, Adventureland, Frontierland, Tomorrowland, Fantasyland and Liberty Square. Magic Kingdom was the first of the Disney parks that opened in 1971.

You’ll know it by Cinderella’s breathtaking castle, which makes for an ideal tourist photo spot. Adventureland takes you from pirate ships on the Caribbean seas to jungle cruises down the Amazon.

Frontierland takes you back to the Wild West, into saloons and on train rides. Liberty Square brings you the famous Haunted Mansion and Hall of Presidents attractions. Toon Town Fair has attractions for young children, as does Fantasyland, which is set up like a medieval carnival fair mostly geared toward children who love Peter Pan, Dumbo and Snow White. Tomorrowland is an intergalactic convention center with some rides geared toward thrill-seekers.

“The World you have entered was created by The Walt Disney Company and is dedicated to Hollywood, not the place on the map, but a state of mind that exists wherever people dream and wonder and imagine a place where illusion and reality are fused by technological magic. We welcome you to a Hollywood that never was-and always will be,” said entertainment executive Michael Eisner. Disney MGM Studios has recently been renamed Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Your Hollywood Studios tickets will be worth the money for the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, the Backlot Tour and Great Movie Ride, but there are six themed areas to explore. You can experience rides and shows themed around Star Wars, Indiana Jones, the Muppets, Honey I Shrunk The Kids, Beauty and the Beast and more. For rollercoaster and thrill ride enthusiasts, don’t miss the Tower of Terror or Aerosmith’s Rock N Rollercoaster!

The Disney Animal Kingdom is the newest park, which opened in 1998. This 500-acre conservation park houses many animals that meander freely behind well-covered boundaries.

You can see wallabies, antelope, monkeys, hippos, giraffes, lions and many other animal species on your safari. Kids will especially love DinoLand. The DINOSAUR adventure ride, Bug’s Life 3-D show, Kilimanjaro Safari and Kali River Rapids are especially memorable.

Entrepreneur Michael Eisner describes, “Welcome to a kingdom of animals… real, ancient and imagined: a kingdom ruled by lions, dinosaurs and dragons; a kingdom of balance, harmony and survival; a kingdom we enter to share in the wonder, gaze at the beauty, thrill at the drama, and learn.”

Disneyland California is a stark contrast from Disney World Orlando. California’s park was the original design, so you’d miss out on Animal Kingdom, Hollywood Studios and Epcot, which is Disney’s futuristic world showcase park. Epcot, characterized by the “big golf ball” ride, is a must-see for anyone looking into Disney World tickets!

You can visit pavilions from eleven different countries, each with rides, entertaining shows, gifts, food, costumes and culture. Epcot is a celebration of human advancement and culture that can’t be missed! Older guests often say they could spend the entire week at Epcot alone, as there is much to see, eat and do!

Buy your Disney World tickets and vacation package today to start making your child’s dream come true. Where else can you see 11 different countries, dinosaurs, pirates, outerspace and Indiana Jones all in one week?

You’ll find that smiles never fade and the laughter never stops as Disney World Orlando. Also, with the many vacation planning options and resort guest benefits, all the stress is taken out of the trip, allowing you to just have fun.

A Dress Fit For a Princess

May 6th, 2009 | RSS Feeds | Posted In: Women's Issues
Raymond Plona asked:

Most women have their secret fantasy of becoming a princess. Now, not all can end up as one so events like costume party can compensate for this dream even if it is just for one night. Theme shops nationwide offer Disney princess costumes for those who wishes to become princess for a couple of hours. These dreamgirl costumes are not that expensive either and are made from many types of materials according to anyone’s preference. You have shops and you also have online shops to scout for different types and compare prices.

The Disney princess costumes and dreamgirl costume varies according to the character. For instance, the Cinderella costume will be a long flowing design while the Pocahontas attire will be a simple skirt with off-shoulder top. If you wish to dress up as Belle from Beauty and the Beast, the dress will be of a simpler design than the Cinderella ball gown. The dress has an inner shirt with collar and the length of it is usually below the knee.

Cotton will be the main choice of material for dreamgirl costumes. This is due to the fact that cotton are lightweight and is a good air circulating material. It is also in a way quite flexible to do many designs on it which other materials sometimes cannot. However, to add more elegance to the costumes, especially if one is dressed like the Disney princess character, silk will provide more glam and luxury. Beware because silk made as a dress will be tightly knitted thus making it hot to wear. You can also have a combination of silk and cotton to make the dress more comfortable.

You can follow the colors of the dresses shown in the Disney movies in order to best portray the characters but it is also acceptable to have any colors you wish if you don’t really mind. For instance, Belle from Beauty and the Beast dress will be in color blue and the inner shirt is white. Pocahontas’s attire is brown while Sleeping Beauty’s outfit is blue and white although sky blue and light blue is acceptable. Princess Jasmine from Aladdin also has a blue attire.

There are various accessories that can be used with the dreamgirl costumes. To top the list, crowns are widely selected by the clients. These crowns are made of plastic although they are adorned with different kinds of imitation jewelry to give them a shiny look. Shoes are also part of Disney princess costumes. This is seen more in ladies that wear Cinderella outfits. Theme shops offer glass slippers to complete the Cinderella effect. They also have leather slippers for ladies who would wish to look like Pocahontas. Theme shops can also include a tiara for those ladies that wear Pocahontas costumes.

Fitting the costumes is important. The buyer should be able to tell the tailor in which parts are giving them problems. They should be able to check the outfit especially around the sleeve area. Dreamgirl costumes may have tight fitting on the sleeves which will give the wearer problems while moving. Buyers of Disney princess costumes should also be wary of the length of their attire. Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty outfits are more prone to accidents due to the length of their skirts. Tailors can do minor adjustments to the costumes so that it will not get in the way of the wearer.

The comfort of the wearer in these costumes is important because it can the mood of the wearer and even worse, spoil the fun in the party. If you are wearing the complete Disney princess costume and dreamgirl costume, you will look stunning and at the same time be the center of attraction. The magic of the costume as well as the event will emerge with the right kind of persona.

Make Your Pirate Dream Come True

May 4th, 2009 | RSS Feeds | Posted In: Fashion
Erik Aronesty asked:

After the popularity of the Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean films, games, series, novel and theme park, almost anyone has dreamed on becoming a pirate at least once a life. Whether you are an enthusiastic pirate fan or your children like to play this role, pirate costumes are the closer opportunity to sail fantasy seven seals while having fun.

Although stories and legends of pirates come from centuries ago and are present in many cultures around the world, Walt Disney was the man who popularized one of the most famous pirates of all times, Captain James Hook, the villain depicted by the Scottish novelist and playwright J.M. Barries in his 19th century novel “Peter Pan”. Captain Hook was immortalized in the silver screen through his 1953 animated film “Peter Pan” and since then pirates - many other pirates appeared into the public media scene.

Behind all pirates costumes that you can imagine there are countless stories that you can use as plot for your pirate theme party. Children love to disguise and pirate costumes for girls and boys come in so many different sizes, colors and designs that it is advisable let your kids decide on the pirate outfit they will like to wear.

There is no party without a cake so place an order to your favorite bakery one that keep the party’s pirate theme up to round your event. Depending on your children’s age, however, take care with swords and other accessories that might accidentally hurt them or hurt your little guests, and do not miss flags with skulls and other pirate decorations put in place.

Nonetheless, pirate costumes are not only designed for children, but for adults as well. Retaking the story of Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean, this was the dream of an adult man that envisioned a walk-through wax museum with depictions of real pirates inside static scenes at Disneyland in the late 1950s. Walt Disney was a man with the capacity to think and feel like a child to make his dreams came true.

As an adult, you can also enjoy wearing pirate costumes at your birthday party, your friend’s bridal shower or any other adult event planned with an original theme in mind. Pirate parties for adults are especially popular as a part of team building activities that involve motivational games such as Treasure Hunting, the capture of imaginary seashore forts and many other coaching games.

Furthermore, browsing online costumes shops such as mooncostumes, you will discover **** pirate costumes for woman, and man, that spice up bachelor and college parties, and many other times secret private dreams. Regardless the type of event, a pirate theme party is also an opportunity to break with the monotony of traditional celebrations that sometimes are really plain. It is very hard that you live a real pirate adventure experience, but so easy when dressing pirate costumes.

Variety Of Products For Children

May 4th, 2009 | RSS Feeds | Posted In: Art And Entertainment
Jim Brown asked:

There are many wonderful products available for kids. No tears shampoo and hair detangler make bath time and brushing out the curls as pleasant as possible. The child’s toothbrush is likely to have Winnie The Pooh or Cinderella perched on the handle. Toothpaste comes in a variety of flavors. There is even special toothpaste for different age levels. For hand washing the gentle liquid soap is in a bottle with a fish on the front and a pump to make it easier to use. There are wet wipes geared toward the older child, past the toddler stage. Best of all - there is a roll of toilet tissue with doggie footprints on it indicating how many sheets the child should use and exactly where to tear it off.

Bubble bath can be in a Superman container or it could have Cinderella perched on top of the bottle with her skirt holding the bubble bath. There are washcloths made like puppets and rubber duckies and boats. There are crayons that draw on the sides of the tub and then rinse off. They are the bright primary colors. The child’s towel is likely to have a cartoon figure decorating it. Dry him off and get out his Scooby Doo pajamas and he’s ready for bed.

The little girl may be very concerned with what she wears. She is a little fashionista who loves to play dress up in Disney costumes and plastic “high heels.” You can hear them clack clack clack throughout the house. She will often carry a little purse with a make-believe charge card inside. “I’m going shopping” she declares as she clack clack clacks across the kitchen.

She is likely to have Snow White on her bath towel and Barbie on her nightgown. There are also sheets and pillowcases with well-known storybook characters on them. Before going to sleep her parent might read her one of the excellent books available for kids. There is a hard-cover dinosaur pop-up book available that is amazing. Each dinosaur is like an intricate puzzle with realistic detail. All children love to hear about this huge animal and how it is now extinct. “Don’t Let The Pigeon Drive The Bus” is a fun story and the pictures are good too. It became popular and there is another one in the series.

The Rainbow Fish series are delightful stories giving a message of fish helping each other resolve problems. One story is about how Rainbow Fish and his fish friend have to swim past a cave in spite of the five-eyed monster that lurks there. As it turns out, the monster was only five lantern fish that looked like one large fish from a distance. This story dispels the idea of scary monsters very nicely. Another excellent series with terrific illustrations is written by Jamie Lee Curtis.

The variety of dvd’s for kids is overwhelming. Monsters Incorporated told a story in which two monsters saved a little girl and returned her to her home. Shrek is good but one movie about him was enough. There is an entire series of Barbie does this and Barbie does that along with tales of mermaids who rescue each other and the themes are pretty positive in all of them. The Cinderella story is still one of the best. Even little kids love a good “revenge of the underdog” story. For the children’s version of a romantic tale, the movie “Cars” ends with two vehicles driving down the road of life together. Animal stories are always popular with kids. The latest version of “101 Dalmations” had Cruella, the nastiest villain to come along in years. Everyone was relieved at the happy ending.

Tinker Bell Walt Disney Classics Collection and Disney Traditions Available at Preshunt.com

May 2nd, 2009 | RSS Feeds | Posted In: Collecting
Preshunt.com asked:

Tinker Bell is the creation of Sir James M. Barrie in the play and subsequent novel of Peter and Wendy and, of course, in the widely known animated Disney film Peter Pan. In the original, Tinker Bell is described as a common fairy who mends pots and kettles, i.e. a tinker, and is often referred to simply as ‘Tink’. Since the original supporting character role, Tinker Bell has become synonymous with the Walt Disney Company, who have long used her as a mascot and later established the Disney Fairies media franchise around her. Disney’s  Tinker Bell is perhaps one of the most important branding icons for the The Walt Disney Company and it is generally recognised as the symbol for ‘The Magic of Disney’.

Walt Disney’s animated movie, Peter Pan released in 1953 remains a Disney classic today telling the story of a boy who wouldn’t grow up, and Tinker Bell is the jealous pixie who glows brightest for Peter Pan. Her voice sings like a tinkling bell and a sprinkle of her pixie dust can make you fly. But this sprite can turn spiteful if she suspects that Peter’s attentions are diverted to anyone but herself. It’s bad enough that she has to compete with Never Land’s other adoring females (the mermaids and Princess Tiger Lily), but now Peter’s brought back this Wendy person from London. Tink would lay down her life for Peter, but he’s too busy playing Wendy’s hero to care. Somehow she’ll find a way to settle the score, even if it takes eliminating the competition. This is one of the most charming, magical movies ever!

October 28th, 2008 sees the DVD and Blu-ray release of the computer animated film ‘Tinker Bell’. Tinker Bell is being produced using digital 3D modelling and it will be the first time that the Disney version of Tinker Bell will have dialogue. Have you ever wondered how nature gets its glow ‚Äî who gives it light and colour as the seasons come and go?  Enter a land of adventure and mystery as Tinker Bell and her four best fairy friends turn winter into spring and, with the power of faith, trust and a little bit of pixie dust, learn the importance of being true to yourself.

Walt Disney Classics Collection’s Fall Premier Event for 2008 (October 17th-19th) will feature this pert little pixie - Tinker Bell. The Walt Disney Classics Collection was created to capture the beloved characters and timeless moments from classic Disney films in beautifully crafted sculptures. These fine statues are produced in porcelain but is often ‘plussed’ with bronze, pewter, brass, crystals and other materials as deemed necessary. The collection remains highly collectable and a strong secondary market has been established. This particular piece entitled: Tinker Bell - Blithe Spirit, features the cute little sprite posing cross legged on a golden brown Never Land leaf. ****** detail is flawless and beautifully hand painted. The combination of a bisque finish on the body, hair and leaf is complemented with a more translucent glazed finish applied to the wings, shoes and the dress. Limited availability - Priced ¬£75 from Preshunt.com

Other Tinker Bell sculptures in the collection are also available including the fast growing collection by Disney in conjunction with Jim Shore - ‘Disney Traditions’. Brand new this Christmas is ‘Tinker Bell Jingle’. Featuring Tinker Bell in Santa costume sitting on a life size handled bell. The pose is both beautiful and senual. In the original play, Tinker Bell is traditionally staged as a flying point of light beamed from offstage. Animator Marc Davis’ personification of her as a winged pixie with a very womanly figure was criticized as too suggestive by Barrie purists, especially after it was rumoured that she was modelled after actress Marilyn Monroe. Tink was actually modelled after Margaret Kerry, the actress who performed her live-action reference. This bell is decorated in typical Jim Shore’s design - influenced by American folk art and the amalgam with Disney art has produced a fairy figurine suitable for all. Priced ¬£32 from Preshunt.com

Party Themes Kids Style

May 1st, 2009 | RSS Feeds | Posted In: Home And Family
Jennifer Wilke asked:

Between bouncy castles, magicians or renting out a private venue, kids parties are becoming more elaborate these days. Even the goody bags are adding up. Basically said, planning a kids’ party can be a lot of work but, with the right frame of mind, can also be a lot of fun.

It’s easy to get caught up in the best vision you can conjure. A room full of laughter and giggles; a cake better than all others; amazing games that not only keep kids happy but leave the parents in awe; and, of course, your child the center of all attention.

What’s important to remember is that all this (and so much more) can happen on a big or little budget and, more importantly, all of this is bound to happen on the biggest day in your child’s year.

You know about the cake and goody bags. So, here are a few ideas to add to your party that will keep it unique - and still not break the bank.

Theme Costume Party

This idea will work with most themed costume parties, be it superheroes, princesses, pirates or any Disney idea. Not only does each invited child show up in costume but also an adult friend shows up in costume as well. This idea works best when the face is covered also - like Spiderman. He looks more mysterious and perhaps even likely that it may actually be him.

In much the same vain as mascots in amusement parks, all he needs to do is walk like Spidey, kneel down for photo opps and deliver the cake. He doesn’t even need to talk. Trust me - not only will your child be looking up in amazement, but all the other kids will too. This is a much cheaper idea than bringing in professional help that will “entertain” too.

Themed Games

And then add to this whole idea with a few theme-oriented games. This can sometimes be tricky but with a bit of imagination, can be done.

For example -

* If a Dora Explorer or Pirate party, make it a Scavenger Hunt also.

* If a Disney Cars party, have each child decorate cardboard boxes with straps to go over their shoulders - and then they can have car relay races.

* If a swim party, have the kids dress in Tropical Luau gear first.

Theme Cake

This part is probably a bit obvious. A beautiful cake that matches the rest of the theme can be either homemade with the many, many molds offered from places like Wilton or from your close-by grocery store or baker.

Themed Goody Bags

Now it’s time for the kids to leave. It doesn’t seem to be a surprise anymore that loot bags will be handed out but what still surprises me is that I often throw away over half of the contents due to too many sweets or to being small and dangerous.

For my son’s Superhero party, I created homemade capes with each child’s initial ironed on. Creating “Super Max”! This combined with a mini candy and bubbles created a sweet and loved goody bag.

Other ideas include adding a magnifying glass to Dora Explorer’s bag. A plastic flower lai and arm floaties to the swim party. Nothing huge - but things that not only will the child guest love but the mom will too.

If you walk away from this article with only one word - remember “theme” When planning a party, I personally find that having a sweet and fun theme holds wonderful continuity throughout and will bring nothing but good times and memories.

For a checklist on all the main things to do, please check out another article of mine here, titled “Kid’s Party Checklist”.
